Stamping is an operation in sheet metal processing which combines deep-drawing and shearing:
deep-drawing is a technological process by which a metal plate is distorted plastically to take on a square or cylindrical shape and permits the production of objects with rounded edges; shearing consists of the creation of holes by pressing down on a flat metal plate and it is used to cut and punch holes in aluminium or steel plates before going on to bend these.

The product is therefore distorted in the stamping process in order to create a deep form with shining borders, and the metal sheet may be filled with holes at the same time.
There are two types of stamping: cold-pressing and hot-pressing.
Cold pressing is a method of distorting a metal plastically (aluminium, steel, copper, brass, titanium). It is carried out at room temperature, whereby the metal is forced to run between a principal die and a punch, creating parts of a defined geometric shape.
Stamping is used to produce objects such as pots and kitchen sinks.
